So...Dollhouse. After being a pretty big Buffy/Angel fan in my teens and recently getting into Firefly I was expecting great things from Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse. I was initially quite unimpresses but the show quickly finds its feet and delivers some clever, twisty scripts (by far the best being the Whedon scripted episode 6).
For the uninitiated the premise of Dollhouse is that down and outs, such as the main character played by Eliza Dushku, sell themseves to the Dollhouse where their minds are erased and new personalities imprinted upon them. They are then sent off on assignments fof the Dollhouse's wealthy clients, after which they return, their memories are wiped and the process starts again. In the interim they wonder around the 'Dollhouse' in a blank, child like state. Oh and all the dolls are named after letters in the phonetic alphabet (you have to pity whoever got 'foxtrot' as their codename).
The first few episodes focus pretty much squarely on Echo's assignments, with the other characters remaining fairly peripheral. The format shifts about five episodes in and the show starts to widen it's scope to ecompass some of the other dolls, namely Sierra, November and Victor. This vastly improves the show and allows for more varied storytelling. The series has now reached its penultimate episode (with a great cliffhanger leading into the finale) and I really hope that the show gets the greenlight for another season.
