Sweet Dreams...

This is a short excerpt from Escape into Night an ITV production from 1972. Based on Catherine Storr's novel Marianne Dreams the programme is far superior to the better known movie adaptation, Paperhouse (1988).

Marianne Dreams is a wonderfully weird classic of children's literature, and is well worth seeking out, as its sequel Marianne & Mark (which is sadly out of print). The novel follows the eponymous heroine through a feverish illness during which the pictures she draws in her waking hours begin to come to life when she sleeps.
